Welcome
Here at Mark's Bird Works, the primary goal is to turn out a quality product in a timely manner and at an affordable price!
Bird work is all that I do, so you can rest assured that I put my all into every piece that comes into my shop. I am humbled to say that the majority of my work is from returning customers.
I am located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range overlooking the beautiful Washoe valley and North Scripps Wetlands Between Carson City and Reno, Nevada. If you want to see my work in person, give me a call!
I have been working on birds for 13+ years. I am confident you will be pleased with the end result. I guarantee it!
Once your bird is thawed and I have thoroughly examined it, I will let know if your bird has underlying issues that would make it less than desirable to mount. Broken bones are usually not an issue as they are repairable. Feather damage might require a different type of pose. Anything found will be discussed prior to any work beginning. I work for you!
You will be kept in the loop on the status of your bird from beginning till completion. .
Why choose Mark's Bird Works for your waterfowl and upland taxidermy?
I learned long ago that a bird mount is only as good as what takes place under the skin during the mounting process.. In 2011, I received personalized training in Waterfowl, Upland birds and habitat from an award winning Master Taxidermist. I take extreme care in ensuring your bird is handled properly from start to finish. Whether it's a pup's first retrieve, a senior dog's last bird or that trophy you have been on the hunt for and finally bagged, I will do my best to ensure you have a memory to put on your wall to last a lifetime.
I require 50% down when you drop off your bird, the balance when completed. if you are dropping off multiple birds we can work out deposits when each bird is started if needed. I accept Cash, Check, Venmo-no credit cards. *I have done my best at keeping costs down in this shop. That said, I have had to minimally raise prices from last year to cover skyrocketing costs for materials, shipping, etc... My goal IS and has always been to turn out an affordable, quality product that with care, will last a lifetime.

Shipping your birds:
To ensure your bird gets here without a hitch, ship next day on a Monday. Ensure bird is frozen, wrap with any type of insulation, freezer packs can help as well for cold, let me know prior to, when to expect it!
The best bird to mount is a fully plumed, later in the season bird. Questions, call me.
Federal Migratory Bird Tag:
This must be filled out by you, and remain with the bird until you get it back. I will attach a downloadable tag soon!
After you shoot that trophy bird:
retrieve it yourself unless you have a soft mouthed dog. Get it cooled off, wrap the head and feet in wet paper towels, tuck head under wing, then into a zip lock freezer bag. Get all the air out and freeze. Get to the taxidermist in the next few months. Frost free freezers are hard on birds! No pantyhose, newspaper or vacuum sealing.
Blood and dirt:
Don't worry about it. It comes off in the wash!
